LOST Episode 5×10 “He’s Our You” - Screencaps, Easter Eggs, Audio, & Analysis
March 26, 2009
Overall, we thought this was a pretty good episode. What a killer ending (pun intended)! We were both pretty shocked when Sayid shot Ben. We both loved the introduction of Oldham; excellent job of casting. What did you think? Let us know at 920-626-6086. Some additional thoughts:
- To us, the big question is whether or not Ben is actually dead. If he is, that would indicate that our Losties have the ability to change the future, rendering “whatever happened, happened” null and void. What do you think? Vote below:
- We loved the return of MacCuthcheon whiskey that Sayid was drinking at $120 a pop.
- Another Geronimo Jackson appearance, this time on a poster in the cafeteria.
- The DHARMA Chef logo is priceless. The chef hat / toque is nice, but what really makes it is the fork and knife crisscrossed below that. It’s got a bit of a buccaneer or pirate feel to it.
- Roger Linus is a jackass.
- OK, so Ilana’s not a marshal. We challenged whether or not Ben could’ve hired her and pinned it on Avellino, the guy he shot on the golf course, but the timing doesn’t seem right. Ben would’ve had to know well in advance that Ajira 316 was going to be the flight so he could tell Ilana what flight to be on w/ Sayid. Ms. Hawking had told Ben the night before that there was a window to get back, but not with any details and not with enough time to get Ilana mobilized. In addition, Ben seems truly shocked when he sees Sayid on the plane.
- The introduction of Oldham was great. Whether it was the ultra bizarre makeshift teepee, the phonograph, the truth serum, or the local neighborhood pedophile appearance, we were pretty captivated by this guy. More of him would be a good thing.
- It was great to hear an Ann Arbor mention. It seems the DeGroots have the final say in sensitive matters. We can only hope they visit the island soon.
- It’s a bit off topic, but we can’t wait to see Desmond again. We haven’t forgotten about him. We now know that Sayid didn’t get Ben all bloody, so perhaps we’ll know soon enough what really happened and if it’ll drive Des to the island.
- We may add some more thoughts over the next day or so, but we’ve got to call it a night…

Wow! Awesome episode…Call us at 920-626-6086 and let us know what you thought!
There are almost 200 HQ screencaps below, but everyone’s going to want to see the four-toed statue (and see below for a few more related images):
Thanks to Wikipedia for the Anubis image.
Initial reactions on the episode:
- Obviously, the four-toed statue was incredible. I can only hope we’ll see it again in the future, despite the time shifts stopping. It definitely appears to be of Egyptian nature, which coincides with the hieroglyphics we’ve seen. A possible identity for the statue is Anubis, the god of the dead in Egyptian mythology. Anubis is also associated with the afterlife, which can also be referred to as the underworld. We’ve been told that the Swan hieroglyphics meant “underworld” as well, not to mention that Cerberus, the name used in the blast door map to possibly identify the smoke monster, is commonly referred to as the guardian of the underworld in Greek mythology. In addition, Paul’s necklace was an ankh, the same symbol held by many Egyptian gods, including Anubis. A number of other Egyptian gods have been theorized as candidates for the statue including Horus (god of the sky and the obvious Horace Goodspeed reference), Osiris (ruler of the underworld and father of Anubis and Horus), Set (god of chaos and destruction and rival of Horus), and Tawaret (a deity of fertility or protection in pregnancy and childbirth where pregnant women wore amulets with her name or likeness to protect their pregnancies; also, Tawaret was typically reflected in images as pregnant, which could help explain why we only saw the back of the statue since a pregnant statue would be a nice surprise later — thanks to reader Joe for this feedback!) among others. Check out this link (thanks to a DarkUFO reader) for pics and descriptions of a number of Egyptian gods. Also, check out some additional images of Anubis for comparison purposes:
Extra props to Joe, Keeping Pace, and Slone13 for pointing out this picture of Taweret. It makes a very strong case for the statue being Taweret, from the location and height of the ears to the headpiece to the items in her hands, to the four toes (hippos have four toes and Taweret is a hippo) not to mention my earlier comment that it would make sense that we only saw the back of the statue because Taweret is pregnant:

- Note to self: don’t mix alcohol and dynamite. Ever.
- Loved the Geronimo Jackson shirt that Rosie was wearing. We may even get more mentions in the future as it appears we’re going to hunker down in DHARMA days for a while.
- Sawyer is awesome and LaFleur is a badass name. End of subject.
- Juliet is one damn fine woman. How cool was it to see her have Sawyer’s back in front of everyone even when she knows he’s got a bad idea, take out an Other with a rifle before Sawyer can get a shot off, work under the DHARMA van with a grinder as a mechanic (sporting another new DHARMA logo with the wench), deliver a baby via C-section, and put together a great meal for her man (DHARMA Merlot included)? I heart Juliet.
- Speaking of Sawyer and Juliet, I love them together. It’s too bad Suliet don’t sound cool. Nonetheless, I was completely irritated at the sight of Kate at the end of the episode all because I suspect it’s going to throw a wrench into Sawyer and Juliet’s relationship. Jaters, you can have her. I wouldn’t have said that a few episodes ago when we saw Sawyer watch Kate with Claire. At that point I was convinced that Sawyer and Kate had to end up together in the end despite both of their flaws. You know what, though? I think Juliet’s better for Sawyer. Kate’s proven to be nothing but trouble with her vacillating back and forth and with her “run” mentality. And I genuinely think 3 years is enough time to get over someone, particularly if you’ve met someone new that you think is fabulous.
- LaFleur is French for “flower”, so I thought it was a nice touch to see Sawyer bring Juliet a flower.
- Is Amy’s baby boy going to be someone we know? I would guess it’s going to be someone significant, but tough to say exactly who it could be. I wanted to suggest perhaps Desmond (a baby conceived and born on the island could account for him being “uniquely and miraculously special”), but the timing doesn’t seem quite right (Des seems a tad too old). If it’s 1977 when the boy is born (Sawyer told Juliet it was 1974 when he was trying to convince her to stay for 2 weeks, plus it’s 3 years later), then the boy would be about 27 when Flight 815 crashed in 2004. Is Horace going to be the father? Whatever happened to Olivia, his wife when they found the Linus family after Ben was born and who taught on the island as part of the DHARMA Initiative?
- If what Widmore said was true about his 30+ years as leader of the Others, then he would stand to be the leader during this era. He claimed he led in peace, which is consistent with the “truce” between the Others and the DI. It’d be sweet to see a middle aged Widmore consulting with Richard one of these episodes.
- Charlotte’s mom’s voice reminded me of Penny, especially when she called Charlotte “Love”. I’m certainly not implying that Penny is Charlotte’s mom, just commenting on the British accent.
- Speaking of Charlotte, if we saw her here as a child of about 4 years old in 1974, then Ben had misinformation in Episode 4×02 Confirmed Dead when he claimed that she was born in 1979.
- I wonder what Richard thought about Sawyer’s comments to him regarding Locke and Jughead?
