LOST Episode 5×04 “The Little Prince” - Easter Eggs, Screencaps, Analysis
February 5, 2009
After the shocking (and for some, disappointing) death of Danielle Rousseau last season, many worried that we might miss out on her back story. The powers that be assured us that wasn’t the case, and it looks like they’re staying true to their word. As one who wasn’t a particularly big fan of Rousseau, I must admit that this storyline has really sucked me in. Due to the time traveling element, this flashback (if you can call it that) proves to be one of the most interesting yet. I’ll definitely be pulling out the old episodes to brush up on all of Danielle’s old scenes. The new younger, hotter Rousseau with a suddenly back-from-the-dead Jin (WTF?! That was one of the most shocking LOST moments I can remember, even more so than last weeks Widmore reveal) makes for must-watch TV in my book.
Other highlights included:
- The time-traveling Losties first encounter with…the Season 1 Losties. I’m guessing (and hoping) they’ll be more of these encounters in future episodes and I’m anxious to see what happens when they are actually seen or talked to by the past Losties. Remind anyone of Dr. Halliwax’s rabbit(s) from the Orchid video? Halliwax was adamant about not getting the rabbits too close to each other, and given Locke’s reluctance to talk to his former self, it looks like he’s thinking along the same lines. But I’m not sure if Sawyer will be able to hold off next time he sees Kate prancing through the jungle.
- The return of Miss Littleton. I admit I was a little disappointed by the outcome of her storyline, though. I thought if she was the one after Aaron, then maybe we’d see Richard Malkin as the one who tipped her off. No such luck. It looks like Carole was just a decoy to throw us off Ben’s scent.
- When Locke asked if anyone knew French, I was convinced we were going to see Rousseau’s crew (I was already hoping after there was a mysterious brunette in the trailer for this episode). Turns out that “Besixdouze”, which is written on a can that’s been washed ashore, is French for B612, which coincidentally is the planet that the Little Prince is from. Perhaps Aaron wasn’t the Little Prince that this episode was named after. I think it might be the name of Rousseau’s ship.
- Daniel’s explanation that the bloody noses may be due to “duration of exposure” on the island. And since Charlotte and Miles experience the bloody noses before Juliet (who has been on the island for over three years), it makes you wonder. We’ve already been given clues that Charlotte has been on the island (possibly even born there), but the news about Miles came as a surprise. Could he perhaps be Pierre Chang’s son?
Miles: “Those yahoos have been here for months. I’ve never been here before two weeks ago.”
Daniel: “Are you sure about that?”
- The Ajira water bottle. Looking forward for more to come on this mysterious airline. A theory is that the Oceanic 6 brought this bottle upon their return to the island and that particular flash was acutally forward in time for the Losties. Not sure that means that the Oceanic 6 were actually unknowingly shooting at the Losties or if there’s another group there as well (Widmore?).
- Another anagram! After fruitless weeks of shoving odd sounding names into anagram finders (still can’t believe “Efren Salonga” turned up nothing), it was nice to score when “Canton-Rainier” came back with “reincarnation”. Possibly foreshadowing Locke’s reincarnation on the island? Or Jin’s reincarnation in the past? (I’m still convinced he couldn’t have survived that explosion)
Here’s this weeks favorite Easter eggs, screecaps (plus below that is a giant gallery of additional screecaps)… We don’t have any audio yet, but let us know what your favorite lines were and we’ll get a poll up. Loved Sawyer’s “Thank you Lord!…I take that back”

Thoughts:
- It appears that despite Charlotte’s worsening condition at the end of “Jughead”, she recovers enough to be up and walking about with the rest of the Losties
- I know I heard Claire’s trademark scream in the trailer, and the screencap of her confirms it. The screencap of Claire, along with Kate, come from Season 1’s “Do No Harm” as Claire is in labor delivering Aaron. It looks like the Losties will stumble upon this. Sawyer also mentions that he saw Kate in the jungle.
- Just prior to Claire’s giving birth to Aaron was the scene with Locke at the hatch when the light comes on (from Season 1’s “Deus Ex Machina”), which is also shown in the screencaps.
- There is a screencap of a new actress we haven’t seen. She’s a young brunette. Could it be a young Rousseau?
