LOST Episode 5×10 “He’s Our You” - Screencaps, Easter Eggs, Audio, & Analysis

March 26, 2009 by Eric

Overall, we thought this was a pretty good episode. What a killer ending (pun intended)! We were both pretty shocked when Sayid shot Ben. We both loved the introduction of Oldham; excellent job of casting. What did you think? Let us know at 920-626-6086. Some additional thoughts:

  • To us, the big question is whether or not Ben is actually dead.  If he is, that would indicate that our Losties have the ability to change the future, rendering “whatever happened, happened” null and void. What do you think?  Vote below:
  • We loved the return of MacCuthcheon whiskey that Sayid was drinking at $120 a pop.
  • Another Geronimo Jackson appearance, this time on a poster in the cafeteria.
  • The DHARMA Chef logo is priceless.  The chef hat / toque is nice, but what really makes it is the fork and knife crisscrossed below that.  It’s got a bit of a buccaneer or pirate feel to it.
  • Roger Linus is a jackass.
  • OK, so Ilana’s not a marshal.  We challenged whether or not Ben could’ve hired her and pinned it on Avellino, the guy he shot on the golf course, but the timing doesn’t seem right.  Ben would’ve had to know well in advance that Ajira 316 was going to be the flight so he could tell Ilana what flight to be on w/ Sayid.  Ms. Hawking had told Ben the night before that there was a window to get back, but not with any details and not with enough time to get Ilana mobilized.  In addition, Ben seems truly shocked when he sees Sayid on the plane.
  • The introduction of Oldham was great.  Whether it was the ultra bizarre makeshift teepee, the phonograph, the truth serum, or the local neighborhood pedophile appearance, we were pretty captivated by this guy.  More of him would be a good thing.
  • It was great to hear an Ann Arbor mention.  It seems the DeGroots have the final say in sensitive matters.  We can only hope they visit the island soon.
  • It’s a bit off topic, but we can’t wait to see Desmond again.  We haven’t forgotten about him.  We now know that Sayid didn’t get Ben all bloody, so perhaps we’ll know soon enough what really happened and if it’ll drive Des to the island.
  • We may add some more thoughts over the next day or so, but we’ve got to call it a night…

  1. Hi, I’m Larry, this is my brother Daryl, this is my other brother Daryl.
This is my LSD. Won’t you have some?
Oldham was an Other in the Maple Syrup station in Vermont.

WOW I can’t belive that Sayid shot Ben, and I know Ben he didn’t die. What I wonder is does Ben know all of this happening in the past. I know Whitmore knows because when he saw Locke in the future he told him he saw him when he was young. Will they change the past for good or did they did more harm than good? Did Ben set this all up to change history? I am truly Lost. That’s why I love this show it’s my As The World Turn.

    GREAT episode =D
I was left with my mouth open after seeing Sayid shooting 12 year old Ben!!!!! What a shocker!!!!
He is a true cold blooded killer!!!!
I dont think ben is dead!!!

The island(Jacob) will revive him!!! Ben is not done!!! The island is not done with him!!!

Maybe, the fact the Ben thought that Sayid was a hostile, and then shooting at him, will influence Ben not to join
the Others and in fact not continue on with The Purge!! crazy thought…..=D

on the screencap where Sayid is going out through a door, it is writen in russian - Oldham pharmaceuticals

    • Jason says:

Yes, it does, and it definitely makes me think that Ben (via Sayid) is killing off Dharma folks that DIDN’T die because there WAS no purge, now that they went back to the past.

That is [perhaps], instead of dying in the purge, Oldham ended up in Russia making drugs (follows from his truth serum/LSD/whatever). And so Ben got Sayid to kill Oldham either to fix the flow of time (perhaps he was “supposed” to be dead) or simply out of hate/revenge (seems much less likely). (Or because he’s aligned with DHARMA and so is Widmore, still, because I hate to imagine more than 2 main factions here….)

i definately dont think ben is really dead. the island will take care of him. im leaning towards the idea that sayid trying to kill him is somehow instrumental in ben becoming what he is in the future, the leader of the others, etc.

It was a great episode! I almost cried when Sayid shot 12 year old Ben. One the one hand you’re thinking, “I understand why Sayid did that because he knows the kind of man Ben became,” and on the other hand you’re thinking, “This is before Ben became the genicidal maniac we know today. Poor kid.” But, I’m also in the frame of mind that Ben’s not quite dead yet. After all, Ben shot Locke in the chest and Locke survived. If the island isn’t done with Ben yet then a chest wound may not be the end for him.

It does make you wonder though, because Ben is always thinking of every scenario five steps ahead of everyone. Maybe he knows Sayid will shoot him in the past, hence telling Sayid that he is a killer. Or killing little Ben will make it interesting to see how it effects big Ben in the present time. Lots to think about.

The truth serum part was hillarious! Thank goodness Sawyer gave the Dharma folk another name so that they didn’t recognize when Sayid told them to, “Ask Sawyer” that he was speaking about Lefluer.

Moscow is showed like it’s ’60s. Stupid stereotypes!!!

  8. Rebecca says:

I was expecting Sayid to shoot Ben based on the previews and everything that went on with Sayid off island, but it was still very unsettling seeing a 12 year old get whacked….or an attempt at it anyway. Darleton made an interesting comment in this weeks podcast about going back in time to shoot someone like Hitler, failing to actually kill him and ultimately turning him into “Hitler”. I totally believe this is going to be the case with Ben, Sayid will help turn him into the sadistic bastard that he is.
Its kind of freaky to wonder how much Ben remembers if he survives….is that why he had the list in Season 2 with everyone but Sayid who was “joining the Dharma party” as Sawyer said back in 1977 (btw should have been a nominee for COW, but you can’t get them all). At least we have Hurley’s classic scene in the cafeteria bringing some much needed comic relief to a pretty somber episode!
Anyway… in the podcast after “Jeremy Bentham” you had some very interesting Ben theories, I hope you will get to discuss them some more with respect to this week’s episode! Will look forward to it.

  9. courtslcfc says:

Some Assassin Sayid is then if he hasn’t killed off young Ben.

I agree with the theory that the shooting does contribute to Ben turning out the way he did and his disregard and contempt he has for Sayid, Which if you go back a few seasons you can tell Ben infact has a loathing for Sayid (Which I realised watching old episodes which has them together in the same scenes)

Either way whether you saw the shooting coming or not it is indeed a huge twist in the LOST universe.
