LOST Episode 5×04 “The Little Prince” - Easter Eggs, Screencaps, Analysis

February 5, 2009 by Eric

After the shocking (and for some, disappointing) death of Danielle Rousseau last season, many worried that we might miss out on her back story. The powers that be assured us that wasn’t the case, and it looks like they’re staying true to their word. As one who wasn’t a particularly big fan of Rousseau, I must admit that this storyline has really sucked me in. Due to the time traveling element, this flashback (if you can call it that) proves to be one of the most interesting yet. I’ll definitely be pulling out the old episodes to brush up on all of Danielle’s old scenes. The new younger, hotter Rousseau with a suddenly back-from-the-dead Jin (WTF?! That was one of the most shocking LOST moments I can remember, even more so than last weeks Widmore reveal) makes for must-watch TV in my book.

Other highlights included:

- The time-traveling Losties first encounter with…the Season 1 Losties. I’m guessing (and hoping) they’ll be more of these encounters in future episodes and I’m anxious to see what happens when they are actually seen or talked to by the past Losties. Remind anyone of Dr. Halliwax’s rabbit(s) from the Orchid video? Halliwax was adamant about not getting the rabbits too close to each other, and given Locke’s reluctance to talk to his former self, it looks like he’s thinking along the same lines. But I’m not sure if Sawyer will be able to hold off next time he sees Kate prancing through the jungle.

- The return of Miss Littleton. I admit I was a little disappointed by the outcome of her storyline, though. I thought if she was the one after Aaron, then maybe we’d see Richard Malkin as the one who tipped her off. No such luck. It looks like Carole was just a decoy to throw us off Ben’s scent.

- When Locke asked if anyone knew French, I was convinced we were going to see Rousseau’s crew (I was already hoping after there was a mysterious brunette in the trailer for this episode).  Turns out that “Besixdouze”, which is written on a can that’s been washed ashore, is French for B612, which coincidentally is the planet that the Little Prince is from.  Perhaps Aaron wasn’t the Little Prince that this episode was named after.  I think it might be the name of Rousseau’s ship.

- Daniel’s explanation that the bloody noses may be due to “duration of exposure” on the island. And since Charlotte and Miles experience the bloody noses before Juliet (who has been on the island for over three years), it makes you wonder. We’ve already been given clues that Charlotte has been on the island (possibly even born there), but the news about Miles came as a surprise.  Could he perhaps be Pierre Chang’s son?

Miles: “Those yahoos have been here for months. I’ve never been here before two weeks ago.”
Daniel: “Are you sure about that?”

- The Ajira water bottle. Looking forward for more to come on this mysterious airline.  A theory is that the Oceanic 6 brought this bottle upon their return to the island and that particular flash was acutally forward in time for the Losties.  Not sure that means that the Oceanic 6 were actually unknowingly shooting at the Losties or if there’s another group there as well (Widmore?).

- Another anagram! After fruitless weeks of shoving odd sounding names into anagram finders (still can’t believe “Efren Salonga” turned up nothing), it was nice to score when “Canton-Rainier” came back with “reincarnation”. Possibly foreshadowing Locke’s reincarnation on the island? Or Jin’s reincarnation in the past? (I’m still convinced he couldn’t have survived that explosion)

Here’s this weeks favorite Easter eggs, screecaps (plus below that is a giant gallery of additional screecaps)… We don’t have any audio yet, but let us know what your favorite lines were and we’ll get a poll up. Loved Sawyer’s “Thank you Lord!…I take that back”

I’m pretty sure that right at the moment where Rousso’s team finds Jin on the raft in the water there’s a background audio record in low tune and high rate (I think). Anyone else noticed something odd there?

Sorry for the random question! I missed a few episodes last season. Can someone tell me why Kate is not in prison “in the world”? She’s a dangerous fugitive– but not “doin’ time”? How come? Thanks.

      K Welch-

Kate is not in prison because last season, during her trial, Jack testified that Kate had saved several lives after the crash by her heroic efforts … blah, blah, blah …..

The jury was swayed and convinced that she has changed her ways, I guess.

But there definitely WAS a trial. She just “got off” with no jail time. Oh yeah and her mother showed up to testify on her behalf as well…. or maybe her mother backed out at the last minute … I can’t remember. Anyways, you get the point……. she is not in jail, and it HAS been explained on the show. :-)

    • BLKnAZN says:

Kate went to trial and would have surely ended up in jail due to the fact that her mother was the prosecution teams surprise witness to testify against Kate. Kate spoke with her mother during a court recess when her mother asked Kate if she could see her alleged grandson (Aaron). Kate refuse and her mother ultimately decided not to testify so the prosecution team offered Kate a plea bargain to stay put in LA and do several years of probation and considered her time on the island as time served.

Im pretty sure the kid you saw when Pierre Chang woke up in bed is gonna be Miles!!! why else would they show this sequence if the kid (or mother for that matter) isn’t important to the out come!!! =P

Man…I dont know whether to believe that Miles is Chang’s kid…its just too easy!! i dont think it will make sense, if Miles is Changs kid, bcs more questions will arise like , how long has Daniel been on the island?!? For example, in the episode,”Jughead”, Chang is filming his Dharma Video tapes then gets interrupted by a Dharma worker who tells him something has been discover…the wheel that releases crapload of energy, he tells him not to blow it up like they were intending to…as Changs walks away angrily, he clashes with a young but light bearded FARADAY!!! The question is, did Faraday go back in time to witness the discovery of the energy wheel…(that hasnt been frozen yet)?!?!?!? AND how old is FARADAY??? If that baby is Miles in the episode “Jughead”, shouldn’t Faraday be older and not look the same age as Miles??? ALSO, Why isnt Faraday bleeding from his nose yet??? He too has been on the island before.
JUST wondering!! Tomorrow a brand new ep!!! Sweet 8-D
